Shook my head so hard reading that! A toothpick?! Six months of frustration and a $200 repair bill could have been solved with a toothpick? I can't believe the guy at the swap meet was that blunt about it too. It's insane how many little secrets these old camera techs just hoard instead of sharing. Makes me wonder how many other common problems have a fix that dumb.

Had a buddy who dropped $200 on a repair shop for his Canon AE-1. Turns out the mirror was just stuck from old grease. Some guy at a camera swap meet showed him how to gently nudge it with a toothpick. Took ten seconds. Felt like a sucker but at least he knows now. Funny how the pros keep the simple stuff hidden. Probably makes them feel important. Now he saves all his repair questions for the flea market guys instead of shops.
