Update: that lab tech's bleach advice saved my ruined rolls

A guy at the camera shop in Portland told me to soak my fogged rolls in a weak bleach solution for 2 minutes before developing, and I thought he was nuts. I tried it on 4 rolls from a beach trip last month that were totally blown out from a light leak, and the images came back with actual detail in the sky and sand. Has anyone else tried this trick or did I just get lucky with the dilution?
