My buddy called my landscape shots 'flat' and it stung until I fixed it
I was showing some of my film pictures at a meetup last month and a guy I barely knew said my landscapes looked flat. He wasn't mean about it, just honest. I asked him what he meant and he said I needed to pay more attention to where the sun was hitting. So I went back to a spot I shoot at near the river and tried again at golden hour instead of noon. The shadows made everything pop way more. I actually got a decent shot of the old bridge that didn't look like a blurry mess. Anyone else get a comment that made you rethink your whole process? What'd they say?

Getting told my shadows were "crushed" made me go back and look at all my old shots. Turned out I was underexposing everything to get that moody look but just ended up with black blobs instead of detail. Started paying attention to the histogram and it made a huge difference, especially on overcast days where you gotta push the exposure a bit.
