Visited the ending of The Mist in my hometown theater
I was at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin last week and they did a screening with an alternate ending where everyone survives. The whole crowd cheered but honestly the original gut punch is way more memorable, anyone else prefer the downer version?

Dude, for real, I used to be all about the happy ending. I thought the downer ending was just shock value or whatever. But after sitting with it and reading what @luna_sanchez said, I get it now. That last shot of the mist rolling in with the family still trapped? That sticks with you way longer than a cheesy survival moment. The real ending makes the whole movie feel heavier and more honest about how hopeless the situation was. It's like a bad dream you can't shake, and that's what makes it so good.
