TIL my panel grounds were the problem after 9 years of chasing false alarms
Spent most of a decade blaming motion sensors and drafty windows for random trips at a couple houses in Parma. Last month I pulled a panel cover on a callback and actually put a meter on the ground rod instead of just eyeballing it. Reading was way off, and the panel had been sharing a cold water bond that got swapped out during a repipe. The homeowner said a plumber told her back in 2021 the new pipe was pex, and I never asked. Nine years of swapping sensors and I never once checked the ground path. Now I walk in and hit the rod first before I touch anything else. Any of you got a go-to check that you wish you'd started doing sooner?
