DAE think zone resistance on 22/4 is overkill or am I just cheap?

I wired a 3,000 sq ft ranch in Boise last month with plain 22/4 and it has been solid, no ghost trips, nothing. My old partner swears by 22/4 with zone resistance built in, says he eats callbacks on 2-wire smoke loops without it. I think half the time it is a dirty ground or a bad splice, not the wire itself. I am not driving 40 minutes back to fix a flaky contact when a $40 spool upgrade would have killed the gremlin. What are you all running on smoke zones, plain or resistance, and did it actually cut your callback rate?
