A customer yelled at me for putting the motion sensor too close to the AC vent

Took a service call last month in Austin where the lady kept getting false alarms every time the HVAC kicked on. Her old installer had the motion sensor mounted right above a floor register and the air blowing made the curtain move. I moved it 6 feet down the wall to a stud near the corner and used a DSC PG9128 pet immune sensor instead of the cheap one. Has anyone else had to deal with airflow triggering false trips on residential jobs?

Remember the AC might not be the ONLY thing causing air currents in that spot. Check if the homeowner has ceiling fans or maybe a window unit in another room that pulls air across the house. I had a job last year where the airflow from a bathroom exhaust fan was actually the culprit because it ran on a timer and the homeowner forgot to mention it. The motion sensor was picking up the slight temp change in the air moving past it, not a curtain or anything physical. You gotta ask about EVERYTHING that moves air in the whole place, not just the main HVAC system.

Check if their doorbell transformer is mounted near the same spot buddy mines been zapping sensors for years.
