Tried a new torque wrench on a Cessna 172 nose gear bolt and the reading was way off

I was doing a 100-hour on a 172 last week and grabbed a new digital torque wrench from the shop. I set it for 150 inch-pounds on a nose gear bolt, but it clicked way too early. I checked it against my old clicker wrench and the old one needed a lot more force to click. Turns out the new wrench wasn't calibrated right out of the box. I learned to always double-check a new tool against a known good one before trusting it on a plane. Has anyone else had a brand new tool give a bad reading right away?

Did you buy it from a cereal box?
