Question about torque wrenches: I borrowed a buddy's old click-type for a flap actuator job and it felt like guessing. Used our shop's new digital one on the same job yesterday and the difference was insane.

Doing the same torque sequence on a Cessna 172, the digital one beeped and vibrated at the exact setting. The old one just had that vague click that you could miss if the hangar radio was up. The digital readout showed 32.5 ft-lbs dead on, every time. The old wrench, who knows? Maybe 30, maybe 35. After seeing that, I'm pushing my boss to upgrade our whole box. Anyone else made the switch and noticed fewer callbacks on rigging jobs?

That vague click you could miss is exactly why I don't trust the old ones anymore.

Honestly that's the whole thing with the old ones, you gotta be right on top of them to catch that little click and even then sometimes it's so soft you think it didn't happen. Tbh I've had a few times where I thought I heard it and then later realized nope, it was just the door settling or something random. Ngl the new ones take all that guessing out of it, which is a huge relief when you're trying to lock up late at night and just want to be sure. Once you get used to that clear snap or beep or whatever, it's hard to go back to hoping you caught the right sound.
