I was reading an old Cessna service manual from the 70s and found out the original torque spec for the 172's nose gear bolts was 25% lower than what we use now.

That 25% difference seems like a big safety margin already.

Seriously, it's way bigger than people realize! I ran into that exact thing last month (had to swap out some parts last minute) and that buffer saved me from a total mess. It feels like overkill until you're staring at the numbers and realizing how close you actually cut it. That extra room lets you breathe when things don't go exactly by the book.
