Went from 3 batches a week to 1 after dumping the basket mid-cook
Everyone raves about shaking the basket every 5 minutes for crispy fries, but I stopped doing that and my results got way better. I used to pull the basket, toss the potatoes, and put it back, which took about 30 seconds each time. That constant opening dropped the temp inside my unit from 400 to like 360, and the fries came out chewy instead of crisp. For the last 2 months I've just let them sit the full 18 minutes and they come out perfectly golden with zero fuss. Has anyone else noticed their food gets worse when they follow the shake reminder?
A 40 degree drop for 30 seconds sounds bad on paper but that's not what's making your fries chewy. Most air fryers recover temp in under a minute, and plenty of people shake and still get crisp fries. Two months of testing in your own kitchen is one data point, not proof that the shake reminder is a scam. More likely your old basket was too crowded and now you've got more room, or you just got better at timing.
