Caught myself reading air fryer wattage specs after a weird find on a Ninja manual
I was looking up recipes for frozen chicken wings and stumbled on this stat from the USDA that said preheating an air fryer can use up to 30% more power than just adding a minute of cook time. Found it buried in their energy efficiency page. Now I'm torn between saving electricity and getting that crispy finish. Anyone else adjust their preheat habits after running into hard numbers like that?

Man that's actually wild, I never even thought to check the numbers on preheating. Thanks for sharing this, now I'm gonna be second guessing every time I hit that button.

Nah I used to be one of those people who just hit preheat out of habit every single time, even for frozen stuff. But seeing that 30% number kind of slapped me in the face. Like, I did the math on my 1700 watt Ninja and realized I'm basically running a space heater for four minutes before I even put food in. Now I only preheat if I'm doing something like fresh breaded chicken where that first sear really matters. For frozen wings or fries, I just add an extra minute or two and they come out just as crispy. Makes me wonder how many other kitchen habits I have that are just wasting power for no reason.
