PSA: A photographer friend told me my mall pics were 'too clean' and missing the decay, so now I always shoot with a 50mm prime to capture the peeling paint and broken tiles up close.

Has anyone else gotten advice that completely shifted how you document these places?

Your friend gave you great advice. I used to do the same thing, trying to make everything look perfect and new in my photos. It felt like I was only telling half the story. Now I look for the worn out spots and the small things that are broken. Those details show how a place has really been used and lived in. It makes the whole picture feel more true and complete.

Honestly read a thing about how decay tells the real story of a place.
