I switched to a serger for stretchy thrift finds and it saved my sanity

I used to only buy woven fabrics at the thrift store because my regular sewing machine would eat any knit or spandex blend. Last month I found this bright orange activewear panel for $1.50 and figured I'd just zigzag the seams like my grandma taught me. It puckered so bad I wanted to toss the whole thing, but then a friend let me borrow her serger to try. That machine cut through the stretch like butter and the seams actually laid flat. Now I'm hunting for old t-shirts and leggings to upcycle, which I never would've touched before. Has anyone else made the switch from a standard machine to a serger for tricky fabrics? What settings do you use for lightweight jerseys?
