Stopped at a Buc-ee's in Texas and it made me miss the old roadside stands
Drove through the Hill Country last weekend and swung by a Buc-ee's outside San Antonio. That place is like a warehouse for snacks, 80 gas pumps and a wall of beef jerky longer than my house. But it got me thinking about the little fruit stands and homemade pie stops my parents used to hit on I-10 back in the 90s. Those had maybe 5 things on a folding table, but the peaches were warm from the sun and the owner always gave you a free sample. Now it's all packaged and shiny, and honestly I can't tell if it tastes better or I just grew up with lower standards. Anyone else feel like the convenience took some of the charm out of road trip eating, or is that just nostalgia talking?
