The Tuesday my VCR ate the tape, then gave it back

I was rewatching my old X-Files VHS set last month and on the third tape, the machine just swallowed it with a horrible crunch. I sat there for 10 minutes thinking I lost the Scully episode where she gets the dog, which is my favorite. Then I unplugged it, shook it upside down, and the tape slid out with a weird warble on the last 5 minutes. It weirdly made the rewatch better because now I know exactly when the hiss kicks in, like a little time stamp. Anyone else got a busted copy that kind of adds to the charm?

the machine just swallowed it with a horrible crunch" is exactly how I'd describe my relationship with technology too. My old DVD player used to skip so bad on my Buffy set that I knew every demon fight by the freeze frames, honestly it made me feel like I was watching a director's commentary by accident. 😅
