Unpopular take: those 'GPS glitch' hunts are actually the best part

I read a comment last week from someone who said a waypoint that was off by 40 feet ruined their whole day in the Sierras. I get the frustration, but honestly, chasing a coordinate that leads you to the wrong rock pile is where the real skill comes in. It forces you to actually look at the terrain instead of just staring at your phone, so has anyone else found their best caches after ignoring the GPS and trusting the map lines?

Old GPS units were way worse. We're talking 100 foot errors sometimes on the old Garmins. My trick is to walk past the point and then approach from the other side. That separates the real signal from the bounce. Also, check the contour lines on the map before you start. If the point sits on a ridge or a creek bed, the cache is probably near the feature, not the exact coordinate. Nine times out of ten, the hiding spot makes sense with the land. The GPS just gets you in the neighborhood. That's the whole game, really.
