GPS drift or liar? My hunt partner swears he didn't skip waypoints
Last month outside Austin, my buddy and I were doing a multi-stage cache that required 4 waypoints in order. I watched him log all 4 on his app, but when we got to the final, the coordinates were off by about 60 feet and we dug around for 45 minutes. He admitted he'd actually driven past the second waypoint and backfilled it later, just to save time. I get that some people treat geocaching like a checklist, but to me the whole point is following the trail, not just the stamp. So which is it, do you hunt for the finish or the journey? Has anyone else caught a partner fudging the route to claim a find faster?

Catching him backfill those waypoints would annoy me too, but it’s the same thing I see with people who speed-run hiking trails just to post the summit photo. We’ve all got that friend who treats the GPS like a scoreboard instead of a map, you know? The skipped waypoint isn’t about saving ten minutes, it’s about missing the whole reason you’re out there in the first place. I’d rather spend 45 minutes digging around a wrong spot than skip ahead and pretend the hunt didn’t matter.
