Broke my rule about dog-earing pages and now I get it

I spent 9 years treating bookmarks like they were sacred, folding corners felt like a crime. Then last Tuesday my 4 year old grabbed my copy of The Hobbit and bent a whole chapter's worth while I was grabbing tea. I got mad for about ten seconds, then realized I remembered that exact page because of the crease. Now I fold pages for lines I want to revisit, anyone else drop the bookmark habit after a kid got involved?

You know that friend who never dog-ears anything, not even his grocery list? My buddy Dave was that guy. His wife let their twins loose on his signed first edition of Dune and they folded like forty pages into little paper fans. He almost lost it, but then he found this one passage about fear and the mind killer that he'd been trying to find for years, and the crease pointed right to it. Now he folds pages on purpose, but only for lines he knows he'll want to argue about later. He says the bent corner is like a memory marker, works better than any sticky note he ever used.
