The client in Austin who hated my color match, 14 coats later I get it

They said the trim looked 'too yellow' under warm lights. I fought it for a week, then switched to a cooler base and did a sample board on their actual wall. Now I always test two tint options on site before committing, has anyone else run into lighting making a perfect match look wrong?

Oh man, that's such a classic trap. My buddy who does cabinets had this exact thing happen in a beach house. He matched the paint in his shop, perfect under his lights, then got there and it looked like baby poop on the wall. The homeowner's kitchen had those crazy warm dimmer bulbs everywhere. He ended up redoing the whole thing with a gray-ish white and it finally clicked. Now he brings a little handheld lamp with him to every job, like a forensic guy, just to check the vibe. It's wild how much the light can straight up lie to you.
