Update: Why I think seat time beats all the new simulators

Last week, I had a new guy who aced the simulator but froze up on a real slope. I mean, sims are fine for basics, but nothing replaces feeling the machine move under you. Maybe it's just me, but I'd take an hour in the cab over ten in a virtual seat. What do you all think?

Ever think maybe sims are good for the scary stuff you can't practice safely? Like, I froze up on black ice my first winter, no sim could prep me for that pucker factor. But our new crane sim actually lets you practice crazy wind scenarios until your brain stops panicking. Muscle memory for emergency stops feels different when your butt isn't actually in the seat, but at least your eyes learn what to look for.

Why can sims prep for wind but not black ice?

My buddy Carl did all his training on the new tower crane sim. First week on a real site, he went pale when the load started swinging in a breeze he never felt in the chair.
