My friend's log splitter weld job nearly blew apart
It cracked right as he started it. Please have a pro inspect any major repairs.

What makes you think a pro would have caught that crack? Plenty of amateur welders do solid work that lasts for years. One bad job doesn't mean every DIY fix is unsafe.

See, this isn't just a welding thing. Folks assume pros never screw up, but I've seen DIYers nail it when the so-called experts missed details. It's more about hands-on skill than a piece of paper.

Wait, "solid work that lasts for years"? The photo shows it cracked as soon as he turned it on. That's not a small oops, that's a catastrophic failure waiting to happen. Hydraulic pressure is no joke, it can turn a cracked weld into shrapnel. Saying some DIY work is fine is one thing, but acting like this wasn't a huge red flag is wild to me. That thing could have seriously hurt someone.
