Honestly thought the whole 'glacial erratic' thing was just a fancy name for a random rock, but I found a massive granite boulder in a field in Iowa last month that looked totally out of place. A local told me it was dropped by a glacier like 15,000 years ago and now I'm obsessed. Anyone else have a story about a rock that made you believe something you thought was just a tall tale?

Right? "Dropped by a glacier" sounds like a myth, but it's real. I had the same thing happen in a park in Ohio. Saw this huge, smooth, dark rock just sitting in the middle of a pine forest where everything else was dirt and leaves. It felt like it was from another planet. Learning it was a glacial erratic made the whole landscape feel different, like you're seeing a scratch on the earth from something ancient. It's wild to just stumble on proof of an ice age.

Yeah, that feeling of the landscape changing once you know what you're looking at is so cool. It's like your brain flips a switch and suddenly you're not just in a forest, you're standing in the path of a giant sheet of ice. That "scratch on the earth" line is perfect, it really does feel like that. Makes you feel tiny in the best way, lol.

My kid found a huge, smooth rock in our yard that just didn't belong there.
