Showerthought: I spent years looking at spec sheets before I tried a gadget

I was reading a review for a new tablet last month, and the writer spent half the article just talking about how it felt to hold. I realized I'd been buying stuff for a decade based only on processor speed and battery numbers. I never thought about if I'd actually like using it. My old e-reader has worse specs than my phone, but I've read 30 books on it because the screen is easy on my eyes. Now I skip to the part of any review that talks about the daily use, not the lab tests. Does anyone else ignore the numbers and just look for how a thing fits in your hand?

Yeah, that part about how it feels to hold is key. I started going to stores just to pick stuff up before I buy it. The numbers don't tell you if it's comfortable.

My last laptop looked great on paper with a fast processor, but the keyboard had this weird shallow click that made my hands ache after an hour. I totally get what you mean, wendy_murphy16, about needing to feel it. I bought a wireless mouse online once based on reviews, and the shape was all wrong for my grip. Now I won't buy any tech without putting my hands on it first, because comfort over a long day is everything.
