TIL most carpet padding recycling programs are just for show.
In my experience, the hassle outweighs the environmental benefit for most installs.

It's just feel-good theater that wastes everyone's time.

Wasn't that the most frustrating thing? @lisak14 is totally right about it being theater. My town started a big food scrap pickup program last year, and we all got these special little bins. I used mine for months, feeling so good about it. Then I found out from a guy who works at the waste place that when the truck is too full, they just dump the whole load straight into the landfill to save a trip. So my rotten lettuce took the same scenic route as a dirty diaper. What is even the point of that? It just makes you feel dumb for trying.

Remembered my buddy tried to do the green thing with his old pad last year. He drove it to the special drop-off bin at the recycling center across town. The guy working there told him flat out that most of it just gets tossed in the landfill anyway because the market for the recycled stuff is so bad. All that extra fuel he burned driving it over there kinda canceled out the good he was trying to do, you know? Felt pretty pointless.
