Duct tape vs. zip ties for fixing a broken dryer vent hose - I went with zip ties

My dryer vent hose split at the connection in the basement last month. I was torn between duct tape and zip ties to hold it tight, but I read online that tape can fail from the heat. I grabbed a pack of 12-inch zip ties from Ace Hardware for $4 and it sealed up solid. Has anyone else had duct tape actually hold up on a dryer vent?

Grabbed a pack of zip ties for my own dryer vent last year after the tape experiment went south. Heard that same warning about heat ruining the adhesive, then confirmed it when my duct tape job failed in three months flat. The zip ties held on like a champ for the last fourteen months, so I'd say you made the right call unless you enjoy crawling behind your dryer more than I do. Tape's fine for quick fixes but not for something that runs hot on a weekly basis.

My buddy Dave went the duct tape route on his dryer vent a couple years back. Found the whole mess hanging loose and full of lint after maybe four months. Switched to zip ties after that and said it's been solid for going on two years now without a single issue. He told me the tape basically turned into a sticky goo from the heat and left residue all over the vent. Said crawling behind that dryer to clean it up was the worst part of the whole ordeal.
