My buddy in Chicago swore by stand developing for Tri-X in Rodinal. I thought it was a waste of time. Tried it last month with a roll from my Pentax K1000. The shadow detail was way cleaner than my usual agitation. Anyone else have a go-to developer for pushing film two stops?

He kept saying 'just let it sit for an hour, don't touch it'. I finally gave it a shot with a roll of Tri-X 400 pushed to 1600. The grain was sharp but controlled, no blown highlights. What's your method for high-contrast scenes when you need that extra stop?

Just let it sit for an hour" sounds like a recipe for boredom more than photography. I get that it worked for you, but all that fuss for one stop of light? I just shoot the Tri-X at 1600 and develop it normally in D-76, it comes out fine. People act like this is some magic trick, but it's just chemicals in a tank.

Ever try stand development with a different film stock?
