Tried a different way to set a shoe on a nervous quarter horse in Spokane
The owner said he always kicked out during the final nails, so I tried holding the hoof between my knees instead of the stand for that last bit. He stayed calm and I got the shoe set clean in one go. Has anyone else found a better way to handle a horse that hates the stand at the end?

My buddy swears by a soft rope hobble for that final clinch on a real fidgety one.

Stand back and hope for the best" is my only move too, lmao.

Tried that once on a real nervous colt... ended up with a rope burn on my arm and a horse that looked at me like I was the dumbest thing on two legs. My buddy's a real cowboy, but I'm more of a "stand back and hope for the best" kind of guy now.
