Had an old shoer tell me I was wasting time with aluminum shoes
He watched me spend 20 minutes shaping an aluminum egg bar and just said "son, that horse needs steel, not pretty." Bucked my pride but I switched to steel for the heavy draft horses and they actually stay on past 6 weeks now. Anyone else have a stubborn old timer's advice that actually worked?

Used to be all about aluminum myself, figured lighter was always better. But watching those heavy horses go through shoes like paper taught me the old guy had a point about steel holding up. Took a bruised ego to learn that sometimes the old way is the right way for the job.

Yeah it's funny how that translates to everything. I feel like we all go through that phase where we think newer and fancier is automatically better, then reality smacks you in the face. Kinda like how I used to buy those lightweight plastic tools until they snapped on me, now I just grab the old metal ones and call it a day.
