I tried a tiny drop of lemon oil on my grandma's wooden sewing box from 1942

My mom always said to use only beeswax, but that box was super dry and cracked looking so I went for it anyway (on a hidden spot first). The wood drank it right up and the grain popped like crazy - anyone else have a go-to product for dry family heirlooms?

Use a 50/50 mix of boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits. Wipe it on thin, let it soak 15 minutes, then buff off the excess.

My grandpa taught me that EXACT same trick about 20 years ago when we refinished his old rocking chair. It's funny how simple mixtures like that work better than half the fancy stuff sold at hardware stores now. I've noticed that pattern with a lot of things in life - people overcomplicate stuff that used to be straightforward. Like how everyone tries 15 different cleaning products when plain white vinegar and dish soap will take care of 90 percent of messes. Same goes for fixing cars or grilling meat, people get bogged down in expensive gear and forget the basics actually work fine.
