Found my great-grandpa's WW2 dog tags in a box of old photos and it made me ask my dad questions I never thought to ask before.

That's so cool, it's wild how objects can open up those talks. My grandma's old recipe box got her telling stories about the Depression I'd never heard. Makes you realize how much history is just sitting in attics, lol.

Yeah, you gotta ask about the weird stuff. The chipped teacup gets better stories than the family Bible.

Omg YES the weird stuff is always the best! My uncle had this old rusty nail he kept in a jar on his shelf and I finally asked about it one Thanksgiving. Turns out it was from the first house his dad built after coming back from the war. He started telling us about how his whole family lived in a one room shack for like two years while they saved up for lumber. That nail just sitting there for decades with nobody knowing what it meant felt like such a waste. Now I always bug my older relatives about the random junk on their shelves.
