Vent: Whole office went dark because of one bad UPS battery
Last Tuesday at 3pm our main comms closet just died. No warning, no alarms, nothing. Turns out the UPS battery pack swelled up and shorted the whole thing. I spent four hours rerouting through a backup closet while the office was dead silent. Anyone else had a UPS fail in a way that took down way more than just the battery?

Right, and the kicker? The battery was only six months old. It wasn't some ancient, neglected pack. Six months. Swelled up like a puffer fish and decided to take the whole comms closet out for a swim. So now I have this deep, personal distrust for any piece of equipment that promises "sealed lead-acid reliability." I spent that four hours just staring at the dead UPS, wondering if I should apologize to it for making it work so hard. Pretty sure that's not how electricity works, but the silence in the office was really getting to me.

Wait, let me get this straight - a failed battery took out your ENTIRE office for FOUR hours? That's like having a single bad apple spoil the whole barrel AND burn down the barn. Guess the UPS gods decided to teach you a lesson about putting all your faith in one trusty backup, huh?
