Noticed a massive drop in network latency after switching switch firmware versions
I manage a network for a mid-size company in Austin. We were running an older firmware on our Cisco 9300s for like 18 months. Last Thursday I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to the latest stable release. The difference in latency was night and day. Our average went from 12ms down to 3ms across the core. It only took about 45 minutes total for the whole upgrade process. Has anyone else seen that big of a jump just from a firmware change?

Funny timing on this post because I just went through a similar thing but on a much smaller scale. I run a little home lab for tinkering and I swapped the firmware on an old Ubiquiti switch I had sitting around, the one that used to drive me nuts with random spikes. The difference was almost surreal, like pings went from bouncing between 8 and 30ms to a solid 3ms every time. I spent the next hour just pinging different devices in the house to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Sometimes you forget how much of a difference a polished codebase makes until you see it in the numbers.

Told my buddy about your post. His work network did the same thing - crazy improvement.
