Had a MRL gearless motor lock up on me at a hospital in Cleveland last Tuesday
Everyone talks up MRL setups like they're bulletproof, but I've had two of these things fail on me in the last year. This one was a 5 year old unit, just lost all brake resistance and the rotor seized up around 2pm. Spent 4 hours alone trying to get the rotor freed up with a pry bar and penetrating oil before calling for a replacement. The old geared machines weren't sexy but at least you could rebuild them on site. Am I the only one who thinks the trade is pushing these too fast without the field support?

Oh come on, one bad rotor and suddenly gearless is a scam? Every new tech has growing pains, and you gotta admit those geared drives were a nightmare to keep aligned.

Man, @williamprice, you just reminded me of this buddy of mine who had a geared drive on his old setup. Thing sounded like a coffee grinder full of gravel after a year. He spent more weekends tweaking shims than actually running the thing. Swapped to a gearless and hasn't touched it since.
