That glass jar cutting kit from the craft store is a scam waiting to happen
I tried one of those kits last weekend to make a drinking glass out of a spaghetti sauce jar. Followed the instructions exactly, scored the line perfectly, but when I went to snap it the thing shattered in my hands and I got a cut on my thumb. Went back to the store and saw three other people returning the same kit, all with the same complaint. Has anyone found a reliable way to cut glass jars that actually works without breaking?

Wait before you call the whole thing a scam - are you sure you weren't using the wrong kind of jar or skipping the hot/cold water trick? I've seen plenty of people mess that step up and then blame the tool. Sounds like a rough way to learn, but this might just be one of those things where the internet makes it look way easier than it actually is.

Oh man that sucks but @hayden720 you're missing the real issue here. The problem isn't the user error its the fact that those kits are designed for perfectly flat glass not the curved tapered jars that most sauce jars have. I spent a whole weekend testing this with like 10 different jars and a $40 glass cutter from the hardware store. The only reliable method I found was using a jig with a straight guide and filling the jar completely with water before scoring to keep the glass temp stable. Those craft store kits skip all that nuance and just promise magic results. You can make it work but you basically have to build your own setup from scratch so the kit itself is pretty much useless.
