That $60 jar vacuum sealer was a complete rip off
Tbh I spent $60 on one of those hand held jar vacuum sealers thinking it would keep my pickles and jams fresh forever. The first time I used it the lid barely even sealed and after three tries I just gave up. Ngl, I should have just stuck with the boiling water bath method my grandma used for canned stuff. Has anyone else tried those and actually gotten them to work?

Honestly, that hand held one is a waste of time for real canning. You gotta get the kind with a hose that hooks onto the vent hole of a mason jar lid, it actually pulls a full seal.

Ah, "pulls a full seal" - that part's not quite accurate. Those hose attachments still rely on the jar being heated enough to create a vacuum, same as the handheld ones. The hose just makes it easier to see the air getting sucked out, but it's not actually stronger. Both methods work fine if you heat the jar properly.
