Spent $40 on a jar opener tool and it was a total waste

Picked up one of those rubber strap jar openers from the hardware store last month. Thought it'd be great for upcycling old pickle jars into storage containers. Thing slipped on the first try, barely grabbed the lid. My old dish towel works way better and costs nothing. Anyone else find those tools useless?

Oh man, I couldn't agree more. I grabbed one of those rubber strap openers from a kitchen supply store, thinking it was gonna be some kind of miracle gadget. Nope, slipped right off the lid on my second try, just like you said (I swear it barely gripped at all). I ended up tossing it in the back of a drawer and going back to my trusty old dish towel trick. It's honestly kind of funny how the simplest solution wins every time, and for zero dollars.

I mean is a jar lid really that deep though lol. Like yeah it's annoying but we're acting like we just failed a midterm or something.
