I found my grandpa's handwritten slow cooker chili recipe from 1982 in a box of his things.
He wrote 'just let it cook all day, the longer the better' in the margin, which is the exact opposite of my usual rush to get dinner done, and now I make it that way every Sunday.

Remember my friend who tried to rush her grandma's stew recipe?

The friend with the grandma's stew is exactly who I thought of! Some things just have a magical window where the flavors actually meld together and you can't cheat it. I bet that chili is incredible because your grandpa knew exactly what he was doing with that note. The slow cookers from that era were bulletproof too, you could let that thing run from morning till night and it would just get better. That handwritten note is basically a piece of family history right there on the page.

Oh totally! My mom's pot roast is like that, you just have to let it go for hours. Rushing it ruins the whole thing.
