Unpopular opinion: I think 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' was way better than 'To Kill a Mockingbird'
I picked up a beat-up copy of 'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' for 50 cents at a library sale last spring and read it right after finishing Mockingbird for the first time. The way it showed real poverty and messy family life just felt more honest to me than the whole noble lawyer story. Has anyone else found a forgotten book that beat out a classic you were supposed to love?

Read an article once about how some people don't get that poverty isn't always what you see on TV.
