Are you sure it's better or is it just that you paid 50 cents for it and now you're invested in proving it was a steal? I've had good luck with old cookbooks too but sometimes they're just mediocre recipes that look good because the standard for food was lower back then. That bread might be fine but let's see you make it three times in a row before calling it the best you've ever tried.

That "three times in a row" test is the real gut check though, because I've definitely had recipes that crush it once and then fall flat on the second go (usually because I mis-measured something the first time and got lucky).
