Talked to an old librarian at the Des Moines sale last week

She told me most people skip the bottom shelf in the clearance section. Said that's where the weird one-hit wonders end up. Picked up a 1972 sci-fi paperback for 50 cents that I can't put down. Anyone else check the bottom row first?

Honestly @william320, what I love about those hidden gems is the story behind them, not just the price. Like I stumbled on a lightly used hiking backpack at a thrift store once that had this worn map tucked in the side pocket from some trip in the 80s. Makes you wonder if the person who owned it even remembers leaving it there, or if it just became part of the bag's history. Ngl, that kind of stuff hits harder than finding a bargain sometimes.
