Saw a ceiling fall on a job site in 2019 and it changed my whole approach to fastener spacing
I was working a remodel on an old church in downtown Portland when the whole drop ceiling came down on the foreman's truck. Turns out the guy before me had used 1 inch screws on a double layer of 5/8 board. Damned thing held for 6 years before the vibration from a nearby construction site loosened everything up. Still makes me double check every screw pattern, even on small patch jobs. Anyone else ever see something go bad that stuck with you years later?

Had a buddy who built a deck in his backyard. Three years later the whole thing tilted sideways because he skimped on the joist hangers and just used regular nails. He watched his barbecue roll off the edge into the flower bed. Still brings it up every time we grab beers.
