Pro tip: I dropped $400 on a fancy automatic taper and it just collects dust now.

Everyone on the crew said it would cut taping time in half, but honestly, my old hand tools feel faster once you factor in the cleaning and the jams. I'm back to my basic knife and pan after two frustrating months with that thing. Am I missing something or are these machines just not worth it for smaller residential jobs?

Maybe stellahayes got a magic machine that actually works. Mine just turned into a very expensive paperweight that spits mud. Those things have more settings than my TV, and half the time it's just quicker to do it by hand. You're not missing anything, some tools just create more problems than they solve.

Honestly, that machine saved my back on the last big drywall job. Once you get the hang of the settings, it flies through long seams.

My buddy tried one after hearing stellahayes talk about it. He said the first room was a mess, but by the second he was cruising.
