Overheard a homeowner say drywall mud is 'basically just glue' and I almost walked off the job

Guy in a million dollar custom home in Phoenix told me he could've saved money doing it himself. I handed him a bucket and said good luck getting level 5 finish without sanding 3 times, anyone else deal with clients who think this trade is easy?

And here's the thing nobody talks about with that "it's just glue" mindset, they don't understand that mud is basically a sculpting material not an adhesive. I once had a guy complain his corners looked fuzzy after one coat and blamed the mud when really he was just not wiping his knife clean between passes. The real test is when they try to fix a massive gap in drywall with just mud and no tape, then wonder why it cracked six months later.
