My brand new drywall lift tipped over on a job in Tampa yesterday

I was loading it wrong, didn't lock the base plate right, and the whole thing came crashing down on a stack of fresh 5/8 fire rated board, but at least it missed me, has anyone else had a close call with these things?

Saw a post about this in a Tampa builders group a while back. Someone said they never use those lifts without a second person spotting the base after a similar scare. That 5/8 fire rated board is no joke either, heavy stuff. Glad it missed you, those things can really mess up a day. Heard another guy say he switched to using a prop and a helper for overhead work instead. Might be worth looking into.

Learned this the hard way too after watching a buddy nearly lose a toe when his base slid on some plywood. I used to think those lifts were foolproof, but honestly, they need way more respect than people give them. That locking plate is the whole game, and if it ain't clicked solid, it's just a fancy guillotine. Definitely gonna be way stricter about checking that before I even touch the crank from now on.
