The $40 moisture meter I laughed at actually saved my bathroom reno

I figured those pin-style meters were a gimmick, but after my drywall bubbled for the third time in my 1970s Milwaukee house, I grabbed one off the shelf at Home Depot. Turns out the stud bay behind my shower was sitting at 28% moisture, and the meter caught it before I tiled over the mess. Has anyone else found a cheap tool they thought was junk that ended up earning its spot in the box?
