That pipe wrench tip from my plumber uncle changed my whole approach

My uncle visited last weekend to help with a stubborn kitchen sink trap. He saw me gripping the pipe wrench wrong and said, "You pull toward the jaw, not against it." Took me 20 minutes to unstick a nut I'd fought for two hours on Thursday. Tried it on my bathroom shutoff valve this morning and it spun right off. Anyone else learn basic tool tricks way later than they should have?
