Heard a neighbor say silicone caulk is better than acrylic... now I'm second guessing my bathroom reno

I was talking to my neighbor Dave last weekend while we were both out raking leaves, and he mentioned that he always uses silicone caulk in bathrooms because acrylic will crack after a year or two. I already put acrylic around my new tub in our 1980s ranch house in Cleveland, and now I'm worried I'll be redoing it before winter. Has anyone here had acrylic hold up long term or should I just rip it out and start over with silicone?

Oh boy, that's a familiar feeling. It's funny how one casual conversation can make you question everything you've already done. I've noticed that's just how projects go sometimes, you make a reasonable choice and then someone else's "better way" makes you wonder if you messed up.

The thing most people don't talk about is how that doubt can actually be a sign you're growing in your work. When you first start out, you don't second guess yourself because you don't know what you don't know. That second guessing means you've learned enough to see the gaps and the tradeoffs you couldn't see before. I've come to see it as a kind of progress, even when it feels lousy. The people who never question their choices are usually the ones who aren't paying close enough attention. So that uncomfortable feeling might just mean you're getting better at this.
