My neighbor's comment about my crooked fence post finally clicked

I was out fixing a gate that wouldn't latch right, and my neighbor Bob came over and said "you're fighting the ground instead of listening to it." Been wrestling with that post for like 3 weekends, digging and refilling. He showed me how to feel for the compacted layer and work with it instead of against it. Anyone else had that moment where some simple advice from a non-expert just made everything make sense?

Ha! I gotta say I see it the opposite way. Sometimes you gotta fight the ground a little to get a post set right for the long haul. Bob's advice sounds nice but that "listening" stuff usually means a crooked fence five years from now.
