Appreciation post for the 5-gallon bucket trick on plumbing

I had a clogged toilet that wouldn't budge with a plunger or a snake. Spent two days cussing at it before a guy at the hardware store in Portland told me to fill a 5-gallon bucket with hot water and dump it from waist height into the bowl. Figured it was stupid but I was desperate. First pour did nothing. Second pour with even hotter water cleared it like magic. The pressure from the water weight just pushed everything through. I've got an old cast iron stack and now I'm wondering if that trick works on sinks or showers too. Has anyone tried this on a tub drain with standing water?

Yo seriously that bucket trick is a lifesaver! I did the same thing on a clogged shower drain last year and it worked way better than any chemical crap. @blairf48 is right though, gotta be careful with the temp cause I almost burned myself the first time. I used a big pot instead of a bucket and it still worked like a charm, just make sure you pour it fast and from a good height. Honestly I think everyone should know about this trick, it saved me a ton of money on plumbers.

Hot water bucket trick works great on tub drains too, just don't scald yourself.
